Silicone CAN-bus Keypad | CAN Keypad Cover for Marine Vehicle
CAN Keypad is a silicone keypad cover, which is widely used in heavy machine and vehicle electronic system with CANopen protocol. Silicone CAN keypad is waterproof and wear-resistant due to its good sealed and compact geometry. Thus, they are widely used in angriculture, nautical, automotive and construction vehicle keypad system.
Silicone CAN Keypad is compatible with colored led lights to be backlighting, because its lengends are laser engraved.
To laser engrave CAN keypad legends, clear silicone keypad covers should be molded first. Then coat different color ink on the keypad surface. Finally laser etch different icons. Keypad backlighting effect are affected by following elements.
1. Silicone material is not good enough. Bad silicone material color is not transparent as good-quality silicone, which results in poor light transmission.
2. Color coating is not thick enough and causes light leaking.
CAN Keypad Light-blocking Inserts
Silicone CAN keypad is embeded with light-blocking inserts to prevent mixing of different color led light. These ligh-blocking inserts are made of black silicone in retangular shape, which are compression molded in an additional mold. With the ligh-blocking inserts, led lights are placed in an independent block under the silicone buttons. Colored lights nearby will not interfere with each other between the rubber buttons.
CAN-bus Keypad Surface Protection Coating
Rubber CAN keypad cover is very durable. They can resist to water, sand, mud and chemicals. Working enviroment temperature can range from -40°C to 230°C.
To extend keypad liftime, PU coating is applied to keypad cover surface. PU coating not only protect the laser etching lengends from wearing, but also make the texture matte and dust-proof.
Besides PU coating, oil coating is a common coating for rubber keypad protection. Oil coating make CAN keypad matte and smooth, but its protection effect is not good as PU coating. For laser engraved CAN silicone keyboard, we generally choose PU coating.
In Keypad Cover wear-resistance testing, PU coating rubber CAN keypad can resist about 200,000 cycles of alcohol abrasion.
